Nowadays, SOLIDWORKS is widely used in many countries, in particular at leading Ukrainian machine-building enterprises, and de facto it is an industrial standard to design parts, assemblies, and machines of any complexity and purpose. Due to the support of Dassault Systémes, in the current academic year Khmelnytskyi National University has the opportunity to organize the highest (third) level of SOLIDWORKS certification free of charge: Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert (SOLIDWORKS computer modeling expert), for students and teachers of our university. SOLIDWORKS certification exams are organized in the SOLIDWORKS Center of Khmelnytskyi National University.
It should be noted that our University was one of the first higher education establishments in Ukraine to start using licensed SOLIDWORKS in the training of mechanical engineering students – we received an academic license in February 2006 as a grant from Dassault Systémes, and since December 2009 we have a status of Academic Certification Provider for SOLIDWORKS (organization of international certification exams forSOLIDWORKS).
SOLIDWORKS training and certification are carried out at the dedicated SOLIDWORKS University Center (as shown below): room. 3-103 – Training and Scientific Center “SOLIDWORKS Computer-Aided Design”, head – Prof. Viacheslav Kharzhevskyi).
Since the establishment of the SOLIDWORKS Center at our University, due to the organized trainings and academic courses, the number of certified SOLIDWORKS specialists among our students and educators is the largest among all of the Ukrainian universities. These international SOLIDWORKS certificates are considered both in Ukraine and in global companies as an advantage in employment.
In recent years, several other universities in Ukraine also received the status of SOLIDWORKS Academic Certification provider, but our university has always been among the leaders in this field: today we have the right to organize 19 types of official international SOLIDWORKS certification exams – the largest number among the universities in Ukraine.
Thus, the highest level of certification – Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert – is the next step for our University. It should be noted that in order for a student or teacher to be eligible to take this exam, a number of pre-requisite conditions must be met, including having previously passed a number of SOLIDWORKS exams both the basic and professional levels , in particular the following:
- SOLIDWORKS Associate – Mechanical Design (CSWA): Fundamentals of 3D modeling of parts, assemblies, and design of drawings – Basic level, Step 1.
- SOLIDWORKS Professional – Mechanical Design (CSWP): Professional level of 3D modeling, Step 2.
- SOLIDWORKS Professional Advanced – Sheet Metal (CSWPA-SM): Professional level of sheet metal parts modeling, Step 3 (part 1);
- SOLIDWORKS Professional Advanced – Weldments (CSWPA-WD) – professional level of modeling welded metal structures, Step 3 (part 2);
- SOLIDWORKS Professional Advanced – Surfacing (CSWPA-SU): Professional level of surface modeling technique usage to create complex models, Step 3 (part 3);
- SOLIDWORKS Professional Advanced – Drawing Tools (CSWPA-DT): Professional level of drawings’ creation in SOLIDWORKS, Step 3 (Part 4);
- SOLIDWORKS Professional Advanced – Mold Making (CSWPA-MM): Professional use of SOLIDWORKS Mold tools, Step 3 (Part 5);
It should be noted that it is allowed to pass any 4 of the 5 types of SOLIDWORKS Professional Advanced exams (3-7 in the list above). So, only after completing these pre-requisite steps, having at least six successfully passed SOLIDWORKS exams at the basic and professional levels, students and educators are allowed to complete the last step (stage 4) – passing the SOLIDWORKS CAD Design Expert exam(Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert – CSWE) :
After the head of our SOLIDWORKS Center, Prof. Viacheslav Kharzhevskyi, received the CSWE vouchers from Dassault Systémes, we organized 4 certification exams of the highest level – Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert for those who have already completed all the necessary prerequisites for admission to such an exam.
Among those who were eligible to take such exams was 1 student of our University – Mykhailo Sviatushenko, for whom the Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert exam was already the 8th exam in a row – in various areas of SOLIDWORKS functionality: he passed 7 exams in CAD modeling, as well as an exam on the basic functionality of SOLIDWORKS Simulation (Certified Simulation Associate).

In addition, the following three educators of our University have also successfully passed the Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert (CSWE) certification exams:
The Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert certification exam contains 20 complex practice tasks in different fields of SOLIDWORKS CAD functionality. Among all the types of certification exams available for SOLIDWORKS, this exam has the longest time limit – 4 hours, which is fully consistent with the scope of work and complexity of the tasks.
In general, both educators and students of the Faculty of Engineering, Transport and Architecture showed a high level of knowledge and skills in SOLIDWORKS, which allowed all certification participants to successfully complete all exam tasks and receive the appropriate international certificates.
It should be also noted that according to the official data of the Dassault Systémes Certification Center (https://3dexperience.virtualtester.com/#userdir), there are currently 11 Certified SOLIDWORKS Expert specialists in Ukraine (including commercial SOLIDWORKS users), and Khmelnytsky National University has the largest number of representatives among higher education establishments – 4.
Moreover, 3 educators from Khmelnytskyi National University are currently the only university professors in Ukraine, who have successfully passed the highest (expert) level certification in SOLIDWORKS.
