On July 2, an awarding ceremony in the University conference hall took place – the students of Khmelnytskyi National University (Ukraine) who successfully passed SOLIDWORKS certification exams from Dassault Systémes, received their certificates and were awarded by the Rector of the University.
SOLIDWORKS is one of the most powerful CAD systems for solving engineering problems that is used by enterprises around the world to design products of any complexity and purpose in various industries. That is why students of leading educational institutions use SOLIDWORKS software to study engineering disciplines: from the basics of 3D modeling to complex engineering calculations. Khmelnytskyi National University was one of the first higher education institutions in Ukraine who started to use SOLIDWORKS technologies in the academic process for training students of engineering specialties: the usage of SOLIDWORKS began in 2006 when the University received their first license, which was granted by Dassault Systémes, and in 2009 the University received the status of SOLIDWORKS Academic Certification Provider for the first time, which enabled our students to pass SOLIDWORKS certification exams. In 2010 our license was expanded to 500 workseats (at that time it was the only university in Ukraine), and in 2011 a specialized computer laboratory was opened – the SOLIDWORKS center (3-103), which was then visited by representatives of Dassault Systémes from the United States.
Since that time, thanks to the support of Dassault Systémes, our university is a licensed user of SOLIDWORKS: our students and educators can use SOLIDWORKS in University computer labs and on their home computers. Moreover, since 2009 we have an opportunity for our students to carry out SOLIDWORKS certification exams in our SOLIDWORKS Center.
In order to prepare our students for SOLIDWORKS certification, professor Viacheslav Kharzhevskyi conducts additional lectures and seminars at the SOLIDWORKS Center, and based on the results of such training, students have the opportunity to take certification exams online.
The SOLIDWORKS certification exam (Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate – CSWA) consists of 14 test tasks, including a number of tasks on 3D modeling of parts, assemblies, as well as test questions about creation of drawings.
Since March of this year, students have taken an additional advanced training course at the SOLIDWORKS center, which included the following topics:
- Advanced functionality of SOLIDWORKS for complex geometry creation.
- Studying literature recommended by the SOLIDWORKS Corp. for preparing for the certification exams.
- Advanced SOLIDWORKS capabilities in creation of drawings.
- Creation of the complex assemblies. Automation of design work and parameterization techniques (both parts and assemblies).
- Designing of the sheet metal parts and weldments. Strength calculations using finite elements analysis method (FEA).
In addition, the course covered the theoretical fundamentals of additive manufacturing (3D-printing technologies), including practice of 3D-printing using modern ZORTRAX M200 3D printer, which was received by our SOLIDWORKS Center from the EU European Commission as a grant funding within the TEMPUS project.

This year, the 12th preparation course for our students was held: as a result of the conducted training, 28 students successfully passed SOLIDWORKS certification exams. Moreover, unlike in previous years, training was conducted not only for obtaining basic level certificates (CSWA), but also professional ones (CSWP) in different fields. Totally, 28 students received 38 certificates (three students received several certificates – both basic and professional levels). In particular, the following students received SOLIDWORKS certifications:

Students passed SOLIDWORKS exams in different fields which indicates an appropriate training received at the University, and this year for the first time SOLIDWORKS exams were held not only in 3D-modeling but also in engineering analysis field: a student of our university Mykhailo Sviatushenko successfully passed the SOLIDWORKS Associate – Simulation exam, after the studying of the specialized course “Computer-Aided Engineering “, under the guidance of prof. Kharzhevskyi.
The SOLIDWORKS certificates were awarded to our students by the Rector of our university Serhii Matiukh, the ceremony was held on July 2 in the university conference hall (3-207). The students were also congratulated by the head of the SOLIDWORKS center Viacheslav Kharzhevskyi, the head of the Department of Machines and Devices, Electromechanical and Power Systems Oleh Polishchuk, the head of the Department of Manufacturing Engineering Vitalii Tkachuk and the head of the Department of Tribology, Automobiles and Materials Science Oleksandr Dykha.
The SOLIDWORKS Center of our university (http://solidworks.com.ua) is currently the most effective among all higher education institutions in Ukraine – during the work of the Center, since 2009, more than 600 official certification exams have already been held and 546 certificates have been issued totally. By the number of certified SOLIDWORKS specialists, the University holds the lead among Ukrainian higher education institutions both for the entire period of the SOLIDWORKS certification in our University and by the results of successful certifications for the current year – 2024.
Today, a deep knowledge of SOLIDWORKS Computer-Aided Design technologies is really essential for modern specialists, as they are intensively used at leading enterprises in Ukraine and around the world.
Despite the war in Ukraine, we continue the education process in our University (sometimes – in University labs, sometimes – in bomb shelters or online), and we are very grateful to Dassault Systémes for the support – for continuing our SOLIDWORKS subscription service program free of charge for the next academic year: it enables us to continue our work and prepare our students using the leading CAD/CAM/CAE software.
